Density-dependence of reproductive success in a Houbara bustard population

چکیده

Although density-dependent processes and their impacts on population dynamics are key issues in ecology conservation biology, empirical evidence of density-dependence remains scarce for species or populations with low densities, scattered distributions, especially managed where densities may vary as a result extrinsic factors (such harvesting releases). Here, we explore the presence reinforced North African Houbara bustard ( Chlamydotis undulata ). We investigated relationship between reproductive success local density, possible variation this according to habitat suitability using three independent datasets. Based eight years nests monitoring (more than 7000 nests), modeled Daily Nest Survival Rate (DNSR) proxy success. Our results indicate that DNSR was negatively impacted by approximately constant space time: (1) although strongly decreased over breeding season, negative density remained season; (2) did not quality associated nest location. Previous studies have shown demographic parameters influenced environmental management parameters. study further indicates existence regulation low-density, population. • Density-dependency mechanisms also occur low-density populations. Reproductive performance is birds around nests. Density-dependent effects do time.

Quantitative Genetics of the Aging of Reproductive Traits in the Houbara Bustard

Do all traits within an organism age for the same reason? Evolutionary theories of aging share a common assumption: the strength of natural selection declines with age. A corollary is that additive genetic variance should increase with age. However, not all senescent traits display such increases suggesting that other mechanisms may be at play. Using longitudinal data collected from more than 5...

Diversity of avipoxviruses in captive-bred Houbara bustard

Implementation of conservation breeding programs is a key step to ensuring the sustainability of many endangered species. Infectious diseases can be serious threats for the success of such initiatives especially since knowledge on pathogens affecting those species is usually scarce. Houbara bustard species (Chlamydotis undulata and Chlamydotis macqueenii), whose populations have declined over t...

DNA Barcodes of Asian Houbara Bustard (Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii)

Populations of Houbara Bustards have dramatically declined in recent years. Captive breeding and reintroduction programs have had limited success in reviving population numbers and thus new technological solutions involving molecular methods are essential for the long term survival of this species. In this study, we sequenced the 694 bp segment of COI gene of the four specimens of Asian Houbara...

Reproductive success in two species of desert fleas: density dependence and host effect.

We tested the hypothesis that a negative fitness-density relationship exists in haematophagous ectoparasites. We studied the effect of flea density on the number of blood meals necessary for starting oviposition and egg production in Xenopsylla conformis and Xenopsylla ramesis when exploiting two rodent hosts, Meriones crassus and Gerbillus dasyurus. The number of blood meals taken by a flea pr...
